Top Ten Things about Summer

So my good friend varunner did a blog post this morning about the Top Ten favourite things about summer.   I'm a bigger fan of late spring and early fall than I am of summer, so I thought that now would be a good time to try to remember the best parts of summer.  You know, since it was hot enough in my house to keep me awake all night on Friday, and it's definately not hot yet.

10. Camping.  We might even try taking Carter camping this year, as the potty issue is partially resolved.

9. Beach days.  Particularly the kind with a bucket for digging and a kite for flying, and fish and chips at the end of the day.
8. Open windows in the house.

7. Farmer's Markets. I like to buy my veggies direct from grower when I can, and this summer is it.

6. Fruit.  Mmm, fresh summer fruit.  Strawberries, blueberries, peaches, apples in the late summer ... Particularly if I can swing an Okanagan road trip and pick up the good stuff right from the grower.

5. Flowers.  I love the flowers of summer, like roses and fuschia and irises.  I am not so good at keeping them alive, but every year I try.

4. It's road racing season (running).  I'm not much of a racer, I'm definately a back-of-the-packer, but I sure love participating in races.

3. Hiking (and I might even be able to do some easy hikes this summer, as Carter will be 4 and can carry his own weight!)

2. BBQ dinners with fresh Chilliwack corn on the cob.

1. Sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine.

So yay for the onset of summer!  And some vacation time!  And road trips!  Even road trips with the inevitable 3-4 year old commentary from the backseat!  And a glass of wine on the patio in the evening!  And birds chirping me awake at 4 am! Oh wait, about that last one...

  1. I've always been jealous of your #9 days. Every time you write about them I'm just jealous, jealous, jealous. I want a day at the beach with fish and chips too!
Speaking of chips, I heard K-mart had ketchup chips? Really? K-mart in the US? I'm going to have to investigate.
